Every year my mom's side of the family goes to either one of my aunt's houses or everyone comes to our house to celebrate Root Family Christmas. My mom's maiden name is Root. This is one of my favorite family traditions. I really like Root Family Christmas because it is a time where everyone on my mom's side of the family comes together and celebrates an early Christmas. This is great because, even though all of my mom's side of the family lives in California, we only see each other 5-6 times a year. Root Family Christmas also helps us get into the spirit of Christmas because it usually takes place one to two weeks before December 25. During Root Family Christmas I see, smell and hear many different things. I see my relatives, looking as joyful as kids in a candy store. I also see the Christmas tree, decorated with ornaments and lights, bright as the stars. I smell the wonderful food cooking in the kitchen. I hear the happy voices of my cousins who have just woken up and unwrapped their presents from their relatives. One of my favorite Root Family Christmas traditions is when the adults gather to do Secret Santa, where they give their assigned relative a gift. These gifts are usually silly or sentimental. Overall, Root Family Christmas is a uniquely special time that I love to celebrate with my family. For me, Root Family Christmas is the start to a great Christmas season.
