Christmas makes me think of my aunt Lolly because it was her favorite holiday. My aunt Laura was a very special person in my life. She was my dad's only sister who passed away six years ago from cancer. My grandfather gave her the nickname Lolly when she was a little girl because she was as sweet as a lollypop. She had chin length, beautiful, dark brown hair that was always perfectly styled. Her cheeks glowed, and she always wore a smile. She smelled like a mixture of pretty perfume and something baking in the kitchen. Even though Lolly was 13 years older than my dad, she always seemed young. She would get down on the floor and play with me and my blocks. She had a lot of patience and could talk to me for hours, over the phone or in person. She was a great gift giver, always thoughtful and generous. That's why Christmas was such a special time for her, as she played hostess to our whole family at her home. She opened up her house to let my mom and grandmother share in making delicious Christmas meals, and we gathered around the piano to sing Christmas carols. She was like an angel who brought joy to everyone around her, especially me.
